Sport Psychology in Action: Practical Applications for Non-Athletic Clients
Here is What You'll Learn
Discover how the mental strategies that help elite athletes and military personnel can transform your clinical practice with everyday clients!
In this interactive webinar, you'll learn practical, evidence-based techniques that translate directly from the field to the therapy room. Dr. Ross will demonstrate how mental imagery, goal setting, pre-performance routines, attention control, and constructive self-talk—combined with mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral approaches—can help your clients excel in job interviews, manage parenting stress, overcome public speaking anxiety, navigate career changes, and perform at their best in daily life.
Drawing from real-world applications with athletes, soldiers, students, and professionals, you'll explore how concepts like "flow state," "mental rehearsal," and "competitive mindset" become accessible tools for building psychological resilience, cultivating self-awareness, and developing meaningful habits. Through case examples and hands-on exercises, you'll gain immediately applicable strategies that complement traditional therapeutic approaches.
Whether your clients are preparing for high-stakes presentations, managing demanding workloads, facing difficult conversations, or simply seeking to lead with greater confidence and focus, these performance psychology tools offer fresh, actionable interventions that empower sustainable change.
Workshop Objectives
After attending:
1. Identify and apply at least 5 core sports psychology techniques (visualization, goal setting, self-talk modification, attentional control, and pre-performance routines) to non-athletic client populations in therapeutic settings.
2. Analyze the parallels between athletic performance challenges and common client struggles including workplace stress, relationship dynamics, academic pressure, and life transitions.
3. Implement evidence-based mental skills training protocols—integrating mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral techniques—to enhance client resilience, focus, and performance in daily life.
4. Develop individualized mental performance plans for clients using sports psychology frameworks adapted for non-athletic contexts.
5. Evaluate the effectiveness of sports psychology interventions through case examples and practical application scenarios drawn from diverse high-performance settings.

You can tell Jon knows his stuff and only does presentations on things he cares about. I also like that I did not have to be on camera during the presentation.
